ペット・ショップ・ボーイズのアルバムで初めて聴いたのが'Nightlife'。その当時は'Fundamental'がリリースされた頃*1で、自分はまだ中学生でした。
あの頃まだまだガキんちょだった自分ですが、それでも一聴して「これはすごいアルバムだ！」と思いました。そしてアルバムの中で一番好きになったのが今回和訳した"Footsteps"。
この曲の持つ「柔らかい雰囲気」に惹かれました。そして、今でも'Nightlife'の中で一番好きです。そして同じ雰囲気のある'Only the Dark'が好きなのもきっとそういうことなんだと思います。
