ペット・ショップ・ボーイズの4月発売になる最新アルバム'Nonetheless'から、昨日配信でリリースされたセカンド・シングル"Dancing star"を和訳しました。
この曲は、ソ連から亡命して以降ロイヤル・バレエ団などで活躍し、AIDSで亡くなったルドルフ・ヌレエフ(1938-1993)をモデルに作られた曲です。
この曲では、初めと終わりにカモメの鳴き声がします。PSBでカモメの鳴き声というと"Go West"を連想しますが、そういえば"Go West"は1993年のリリースでしたね。PVはソ連崩壊後のロシアはモスクワ・赤の広場で撮られているし、AIDS蔓延後のペーソスが込められているし、そこまで関連していたり……？
メレエフ自身実際に"Go West"した人だし、やっぱり何かしら意味が込められてると見て間違いないかな？
