ペット・ショップ・ボーイズ「Party in the Blitz」を和訳。

ペット・ショップ・ボーイズの4月リリースになる最新アルバム'Nonetheless'からのファーストシングルである"Loneliness"のカップリング、"Party in the Blitz"を翻訳しました。

自らの不勉強がゆえに、自分はこの曲で目にするまで「Blitz」という言葉を知らなかったのですが、元々「電撃戦」を表す言葉*1で、定冠詞をつけて「the Blitz」というと「ロンドン大空襲」を指します。*2
曲のタイトル自体はエリアス・カネッティの同名の著作からインスパイアされたようですが、なかなか含みのあるタイトルです……

昨日ついにペット・ショップ・ボーイズの4年ぶりとなる待望の最新アルバム'Nonetheless'の発売*1がアナウンスされ、それと同時にアルバムからのファーストシングル"Loneliness"の配信も始まりました*2。

そんなわけでさっそく聴いてみたのですが、クレイグ・アームストロングと組んだ'Nightlife'(1999)の曲たちやトレヴァー・ホーンと組んだ'Fundamental'(2006)の曲たちを思わせる仕上がり。*3
どこか懐かしさを感じるような、オーケストレーションとダンス・ミュージックのコラボレーション。しかもビートの部分は"Transparent"*4を思わせるようなものになっていて、これはPetHeadホイホイな曲なんでしょうか。笑

今回お送りするのは、ペット・ショップ・ボーイズのアルバム'Electric'より、"Vocal"の和訳です。彼らの曲としては分かりやすいくらいに「音楽賛歌」「ディスコ(ダンスフロア)賛歌」です。

以前もこのブログに書いたことがあるのですが、自分が通っていた大学(教育学専攻)には教授なしで運営する学生の自主ゼミ「サブゼミ」というものが存在していました。
自分の大学在籍時に全12分科会あった中、4年間ずっと所属していたのが「道徳教育分科会」で、特に追究テーマにしていたのが「アイデンティティ」でした。
中学校版「特別の教科　道徳」の学習指導要領の内容項目でも、「Ａ　主として自分自身に関すること」の三つ目に「自己を見つめ，自己の向上を図るとともに，個性を伸ばして充実した生き方を追求すること。」とあります。

「自分は何者か」という問いは思春期だけでなく人生を通じての「ビッグ・クエスチョン」だと個人的には考えていますが、「自分は一体何者なのか」と時には相反する性格とも葛藤していく様子を描いたのが今回和訳するペット・ショップ・ボーイズの"Too many people"です。

ペット・ショップ・ボーイズ「I will fall」を和訳。

ペット・ショップ・ボーイズの最新EP'Lost'より、"I will fall"の和訳です。公式によれば'Lost'の収録曲は2015年、'Super'の制作中に作ったデモのデッドストックということですが、今回のリリースにあたって多少のアレンジが加わってるんですかね？
というのも、この"I will fall"に限らず、デモっぽい粗削り感がある*1一方で「完成品」としてのクオリティもある*2し、どっちなんだろう……？
